Communication Skills: Communicating Clearly and Resolving Conflicts in the Workplace
Most of us know how to get along with colleagues or managers whom we like and respect. When we must ask for something we need from a difficult boss, however, or resolve a disagreement with a colleague we dislike, communicating becomes much more difficult. The stress created by unresolved workplace needs and conflicts can interfere with our work performance, job satisfaction, productivity, and even with our personal life. We all know that conflict is inevitable, but did you know that it can also lead to innovation, collaboration, behavior change and win-win solutions? In this salon, you will learn about "conflict styles", identify your own style, and learn to spot other people’s preferred conflict style. You will also learn the principles of effective communication and conflict resolution, and will get to practice your new skills. Finally, you will have a chance to reflect on your own workplace, identify existing communication challenges, and develop a plan for improvement.

Melissa Schneider is a US-licensed counselor with a Masters in Clinical Social Work from Columbia University. Before beginning her practice in China, Mrs. Schneider was the Director of Operations and Clinical Service for an American Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Mrs. Schneider has extensive experience in individual counseling and facilitation of wellness seminars for employee. In her EAP role, Mrs. Schneider also consulted with HR and leadership personnel to effectively manage problem employees, down-sizing and layoffs, staff development and well-being, and organizational improvement.
